Sometimes I am amazed at what God has done in my life. No, actually, frequently, I am amazed at what God has done in my life. I so do not deserve the family, the church family, my car, my house, my health, and if God really knew everything about me, He’d feel the same. Wait. He does know everything about me, and yet He loves and blesses me anyway. Isn’t that wild? It’s the same with you. He knows all about those things you did in the past and that thing you’re doing right now. We may think we can hide things from God but that’s ridiculous. I get it. Humans thought from the start that they could hide from God.

Remember after Adam and Eve ate from the tree they were not supposed to eat from? What happened? They suddenly noticed they were naked. One day, when God calls out to Adam, Adam says to God, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid” (Genesis 3:10).

Yeah, Adam tried to hide from God. I can chuckle about it, but the truth is, this Adam, has tried to do the very same thing over the years. Hide my sins from the LORD. I’m sure you have as well. Maybe if I lock the door and shut off the lights, God won’t see what I’m about to do. Perhaps if I leave work early and swing by the package store on the way home, the Creator of heaven and earth will not notice. Maybe if I don’t say it out loud, the King of kings and LORD of Lords won’t know what I was thinking about that person. Yeah, Adam and Eve are you and me. Nothing’s changed since the beginning. So, why does God bless us? It makes no sense. But He does. He always has. God has always worked with flawed material. Think about it.

Someone once observed Noah was a drunk. Abraham was too old. Jacob was a liar. Joseph was abused. Moses had a stuttering problem. Samson was a womanizer. Rahab  was a prostitute. David had an affair and was a murderer. Elijah was suicidal. Peter denied Christ. The Samaritan woman at the well was divorced, more than once. Lazarus was dead!

Yeah, God has been working with a bunch of misfits from the start and regardless of how or how often we fall, He does not stop loving those who confess, repent, and believe in Him. Paul said as much in Romans, “…nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38).

Look, my friends, be amazed at what God has done in your life. You should be. I am. Every single day. Do not focus on being unqualified. God does not call the equipped. He equips the called. You have been called. We have been called to be ambassadors of Christ. To be God’s hands and feet. His heart and voice in this world where so many are focused on their failings. They need to hear how much God loves them. How He sent His one and only Son to forgive them. But before you tell them that, you need to believe it for yourself. Believe it! Be amazed and you will be amazing!
